The stock market closed near highs and investors shook the recent trend to close positions ahead of the weekend. It also followed some massive moves to the downside that could signal a capitulation moment and oversold conditions for stocks. Does it mean the 2022 stock market crash is over? Stocks in the Nasdaq 100 closed last week with a sixth-consecutive weekly drop, its longest run since November 2012. Investor sentiment, as measured by the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), is at its lowest since March 2009…typically a bullish sign with most investors fearing the worst. On a valuation basis, the forward P/E ratio for stocks in the S&P 500 fell to 16.6-times last week, below the ten-year average of 16.9-times. This all means that stocks are not expensive, based on that price-to-earnings ratio, could be oversold based on technical factors and that overly-pessimistic investors could rush back into the market if prices start higher.
