Futures trading has always been my favorite tool for hedging downside risks in stocks as well as playing the upside in themes like energy and gold prices. In this video, I’ll get you started in futures trading with everything you need to know including strategies and how to practice without risking your own money. Futures are just an investment contract between a buyer and seller to transact in an asset like a currency, oil, natural gas or corn at a fixed price and time in the future. Farmers have been using futures since as early as 1697 in Japan to reduce their risk in crop prices. In the 1840s, Chicago became the center of the global futures market where the Chicago Board of Trade and later the Mercantile Exchange opened the market to buy and sell. I’ll reveal those futures trading strategies next but it’s important to understand the pros and cons of futures. On the plus side, futures allow you to use more leverage in your investments than you could with stocks and even options. Another benefit here is that futures can also be a great tool to reduce risk, not just for farmers and corporations but for investors as well. There are downsides to futures trading as well and top here is that leverage can work in reverse. Another downside most beginning traders don’t think about is the emotional strain futures can cause. Futures trading is nearly 24 hours a day, six days a week. For the downsides, futures trading is still a great tool that every investor should know how to use and I want to share three trading strategies to consider. Disclaimer: Trading futures involves the risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. 🤑 Get The Weekly Bow-Tie - my FREE weekly email newsletter sharing market updates, trends and the most important news!
